Liska’s Role in Jewish Spiritual Heritage

The Jewish heritage of Liska, prominent since the 1800s, has made it a vital center for religious life. Thousands of pilgrims come annually to pay homage to Tzvi Hirsh Liska, also revered as Hershele Lisker. Liska is home to over 500 Jewish heritage sites, from cemeteries to synagogues reflecting a long history. By the late 19th century, the Jewish population of Liska reached nearly 3,000, enriching its cultural environment. The influence of Liska’s heritage extends to nearby towns like Kerestir, shaping Jewish life across Hungary. Today, Liska attracts around 5,000 visitors annually, each drawn by its historical and spiritual significance.
